DeeDee Sacco Fight For Life
DeeDee Sacco’s Fight for Life began in 1998 when she was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma of the lung. Her battle ended on November 1, 2004. During these seven years, DeeDee’s desire and dream was to give other cancer patients the support she was blessed with throughout her many operations and treatments both here in Pittsburgh and at the National Institutes of Health. DeeDee felt so fortunate – her passion was to promote funds for the emotional, physical and financial needs of cancer patients.
At age thirty-three, after numerous surgeries and experimental treatments, DeeDee lost her fight, and, unfortunately, her dream was unfulfilled. In her memory, we, her family, doctors and friends, are pursuing her dream.
Based at the Hillman Cancer Center, the UPMC Cancer Centers Patient Assistance Fund was created in 2005 to help cancer patients across the network overcome some of the financial barriers associated with completing their treatment. The fund is designed to provide partial, short-term assistance to help eligible patients with care-related expenses, primarily including nutritional support. A total of 1,663 patients have been helped since the fund’s inception. Since 2005, the DeeDee Sacco Fight for Life has proudly contributed an unprecedented amount of over $260,000!
